Founder's Note

Having been born and brought up in the mountains, pahadi culture was never something I had to discover, it was simply a part of everyday life. It lived in the language, the people, the food, the humour, and in the many small details that often go unnoticed when you are close to them.

It was only after spending time away from home that I truly began to understand how deeply identity, memory, and belonging are tied to where we come from. That distance made me hold my roots more closely.

Through illustration, animation, and visual storytelling, I found myself constantly returning to the stories, symbols, and emotions of the hills. What began as a personal way of staying connected slowly became the foundation of Kaafal.

The Studio

Rooted in the heart of Uttarakhand, Kaafal Studio is a visual design, illustration, and animation studio that celebrates local stories through its thoughtful designs. We work across mediums to tell narratives that are grounded, intuitive, and crafted with care.
Founded with a deep love for visual storytelling and a commitment to design that resonates, our studio brings together art, culture, and communication, often inspired by the textures, rhythms, and everyday life in the hills.

The Kaafal(काफल) berry is native to the Himalayan region. A humble, seasonal, and deeply nostalgic fruit for anyone who’s grown up in or around the mountains. It’s a symbol of simplicity, wilderness and sweet, fleeting joy.

The Brand

Kaafal Studio Merch is a contemporary pahadi-design merchandise brand rooted in the hills of Uttarakhand. It’s an extension of our studio where art meets utility. Using apparel and everyday objects as our canvas, we turn everyday pahadi stories into contemporary visual designs.

At Kaafal, we wanted to tell our stories in a way that feels thoughtful and nuanced. Not by simplifying culture, but by translating it with care and clarity. Every design at Kaafal begins with a pahadi story.

We come from a place that is rich in culture, memory, and identity. It’s full of stories, details, and ways of life that deserve to be seen and appreciated in their true sense. We believe identity is not something we create, it’s something we carry.
